Mitsui - A spatial organization where the individual chooses.

At the end of 2021, located on Belliard Street, MITSUI is facing a dilemma currently shared by many organizations: transforming their workspace in line with New Ways of Working as well as reducing and better controlling real estate and energy costs. The building they occupy is very rigid, especially because of the concrete floor.

They had two options: to move to Brussels or to move away. In order to advance the reflection process, they divided nine people, representing all the employees, into three working groups. Together, they decided to move to a location where they could meet the needs of better cost control, mobility and flexibility.

In the context of the rapid and unprecedented evolution of the workplace, our close collaboration with Mitsui has been an incredible opportunity to successfully implement the guidelines of their "Works X" design concept, with innovation and flexibility as the key words.

Danny de Meyer, Facility Manager@Mitsui tells us: " The organization is no longer based on departments, it is the individual who can choose! From a technical point of view: we have provided a lot of facilities to work in Teams and Zoom easily. Everyone has a laptop, an i-phone and applications available on it - you can work from anywhere, even for a whole day at the customer's place. We can also set up our visitors anywhere: they can work in the Touch Down zone, in the Project Room, in the Bubbles or on the "Serpentine" furniture, which is connected and dedicated to them. For our employees, we have introduced the Free Desk! There are no assigned desks, even if people like to stay in the same places, others move around."

An alliance between technology and furniture to support flexibility needs

Mitsui has always been an innovative platform. They are the pioneers of their network. Once again, they surprise: it's in the Treurenberg, a century-old building with character in the heart of Brussels, next to the St. Gudula Cathedral, that they find the innovation space they need.

We were passionate about integrating Japanese design in harmony with the building, making the space unique.

Thank you Mitsui for your trust and this excellent collaboration!
